Euromed:UfM conference on Women's socio-economic empowerment

In Barcelona, a follow-up to sept.11 meeting in Paris

    (ANSAmed) - Roma, 18 mar - The Secretariat of the Union for the Mediterranean organises an international project-oriented conference on 26 and 27 March 2014 in Barcelona. The Conference - 'Women's socio-economic empowerment: projects for progress' - is organised as an effective follow-up on the Third UfM Ministerial Conference on Strengthening the Role of Women in Society (Paris, 11 September 2013) where Ministers supported the development of projects on women empowerment and encouraged the Secretariat to identify, promote and facilitate funding for regional projects.

    This two-day international multi-stakeholder conference will gather governmental representatives, international development agencies, international organisations dealing with women's empowerment and gender equality, private sector and civil society representatives, as well as promoters of current and potential regional cooperation projects promoted by the Union for the Mediterranean. Objectives of the conference are: - Identify priority initiatives, programmes and funding in the field of socio-economic empowerment of women in the Euro-Mediterranean region.

    - Develop stronger synergies and coherence among key stakeholders in the region, and facilitate institutional and financial support for specific projects advancing women empowerment.

    - Encourage the submission of regional project proposals to the UfM Secretariat.(ANSAmed).
