Alfano bringing Mediterranean to UN Security Council

Interior minister heads to NY to take non-permanent seat

    (ANSAmed) - ROME, JANUARY 9 - Italian Interior Minister Angelino Alfano departed for New York on Monday to take Italy's seat as a non-permanent member at the UN Security Council meeting Tuesday on the topic of "maintenance of international peace and security".

    Italy's two-year non-permanent term began on January 1.

    Alfano said Italy would highlight "issues that we think should be a priority, starting with the Mediterranean".

    "Italy can play an important role in giving a strengthening in intensity to this dossier," Alfano said.(ANSAmed).
